The Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) operates SRPS Railtours, the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway and the Museum of Scottish Railways which together form three of central Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions. The SRPS manages a collection that has been recognised as being of national significance through the Scottish Government Recognition Scheme. Most of the collection is owned by the Scottish Railway Museum Collections Trust and SRPS manages it on their behalf. Visitors to the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway can see parts of the collection and other rolling stock operating on the railway.

The Society is operated and managed principally by volunteers, but it also relies on a small dedicated team of full and part time support staff. We are looking to recruit a Seasonal Museum Assistant.

The successful candidate will work in the Museum of Scottish Railways at Bo’ness alongside our volunteer work force to enable public access to the collection.

Easter & May bank holidays then 1 July to 30 September 2024

We are looking for professional and motivated individuals to represent one of Dumfries & Galloway’s finest tourist destinations during the 2024 season.

Working in our tearoom and cabin you will provide a warm welcome to visitors, serving hot and cold drinks, delicious cakes and lunches, and ensuring that the highest standards of hygiene are maintained. We are looking for enthusiastic and conscientious individuals with excellent customer service skills to join the team at Dunnottar Castle over the summer season.

From end of March to September (exact dates dependent on rota position).

2 days on, 4 days off shift pattern, which will include weekend working.

Hours of work 08:45-17:45.

Required for duties including: –

Ensure the coach park is operated efficiently to maintain pre-booked spaces, deal with coach parties and communicate arrivals to Castle kiosk.
Ensure the main car park is operating efficiently.
Keep car/coach park areas tidy and free from litter.
Deal with camper van space availability.
Painting around parking areas.
Regular checks on cleanliness and condition of temporary toilet block.
Ensure consumable stocks in toilet block are maintained throughout the day.
Cleaning of toilet block at the end of the day.

As a Museum Assistant, you will play an important part of the museum’s front-of-house team. The customer service provided by you directly impacts on the quality of the cultural offer and reputation of the museum, and our town, nationally and internationally.

Your role is to ensure that every visitor receives a warm and friendly welcome and a brief introduction to the museum. As a Museum Assistant you are expected to encourage visitors to enjoy their museum experience, purchase shop products, and offer information about other visitor attractions and services in Dunfermline. You will be asked to maintain the safety of the collections and of the visitors by ensuring that our Security and Health & Safety policies are followed. You will also be expected to undertake some additional tasks, including basic admin, tidying and cleaning.

The Museum operates on a rota system, and frequent weekend working is required. During the tourism high season there may be restrictions on the periods during which leave can be taken. The Museum is closed between December – February each year for maintenance. Museum Assistants will not be working during those months.

We are looking for a Seasonal Retail Sales Assistants to join our team at Highland Wildlife Park. In this role you will be helping with cover for our peak Spring and Summer period, the role is expected to last 6 months and include part time, variable hours, with some weekend work. Ensure all front of house areas and other RZSS retail outlets are maintained to the highest standard, ensuring stocks are regularly replenished, all areas are clean and clear, all products are displayed and merchandised as directed.
Operate the tills efficiently and assist with the counting and recording of monies to agreed standards.
Occasionally provide assistance in other operational areas including events, car parking and driving visitor passenger vehicles.

Good achievement in standard grades (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
Accurate numerical reasoning skills and attention to detail.

The role

To undertake daily cleaning and inspections of public and staff areas, ensuring that all areas of the Highland Wildlife Park are safe and well presented for our visitors and in accordance with agreed service standards and in a cost-effective manner, in support of the Royal Zoological Society for Scotland’s (RZSS’) mission and vision.

Some of the things you’ll do:

Inspect and clean public and staff areas ensuring they and clean and safe for all that use the facilities (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping surfaces in areas including staff/public areas, bathrooms, and so forth).
Refilling and restocking cleaning supplies and toiletries (hand wash, toilet paper, paper towels)
Maintaining cleaning products and requesting new supplies when necessary
Conducting the clean deep of site areas as and when required.
Ensure the site is free from litter.
Emptying, cleaning and provision of liners for bins in common and external areas
To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and that of others. This implies taking positive steps to understand the hazards in the workplace, to comply with safety rules and procedures and to ensure that nothing you do, or fail to do, puts yourself or others at risks.
Occasionally provide assistance in other operational areas including such as catering

Able to identify and make safe (for self, colleagues and the public) all the utilities and services encountered whilst working on RZSS sites.

We’re looking for someone to help us spread the word about the brilliant day out that families can enjoy at Almond Valley. The job provides opportunity to develop the scope of our current marketing activities, perhaps trialling new approaches, undertaking research, and measuring impacts. Efforts are likely to focus on online marketing, both through managing paid campaigns, and through enhancing the creative and engaging content shared through our social media channels. The key objective will be to add to the number of visitors that we welcome over the course of the summer.

Insight into marketing theory and practice is essential to the role and, for a person who has recently acquired these skills, the post could offer opportunity to exercise creativity, build practical experience, and demonstrate their capabilities. The job requires a great way with words and images, broad digital competency, and an affinity with the families and young children who are our core audience

The post is likely to require full time commitment between the start of June and end of August, however an earlier appointment might be agreed, (perhaps from as early as February), working on a part-time or full-time basis. OVERVIEW OF THE POST

To deliver the learning visit discovery sessions, which provide a learning experience to primary and secondary schools who visit Almond Valley. This involves the delivery of popular animal experiences to history and heritage sessions, where there are Q&A sessions from the attendees. These discovery sessions are essential to allow us to deliver to our charitable aims. The post also provides a key support to the development and implementation of the seasonal events programme.

INFORMATION ABOUT TEAM

You will form part of the Visitor Operations Team, lead by the Operations Manager. The small dedicated learning & events team is currently made up of two team members, who work in shifts to ensure learning visits and subsequent discovery sessions are delivered to visiting schools. The team also ensure that the seasonal events are delivered.

SCOPE OF DUTIES

Learning & Events
• To delivery the Discovery Sessions to primary and secondary schools
• Responsible for the day-to-day learning activities
• Contribute to the continued delivery of the learning visit programme
• Assist in the development and delivery of seasonal and special events

Visitor Experience
• Welcoming visitors to the site and processing their admission/retail purchases in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner.
• Welcoming visitors with specific needs/impairments and providing a high level of service in accordance with the Equality Act.
• Welcoming large groups in an efficient and warm manner, including the managing of the car park.
• Answering visitors’ queries about the site face to face and over the telephone.

As a key support to the Senior Visitor Services Assistant, the visitor services assistant maximises our visitors enjoyment of Almond Valley Heritage Centre by maintaining excellent standards of service. Ensuring the smooth and safe operations in admissions, house management and events activities making Almond Valley Heritage Centre the best possible place to visit and work.
Due to the nature of this post the successful candidate will need to be over the age of 18 years old.

As a key support to the Facilities Manager and Senior Maintenance Assistant, the Maintenance Assistant will engage in a range of tasks connected with the maintenance and upkeep of the site. Allowing the smooth running of the visitor attraction.

You will form part of the Horticultural Team, lead by the Facilities Manager. The small dedicated growing and landscape team is made up of three, who work to ensure the landscaping and growing cycles are carried out for the site.

• Undertaking day-to-day landscaping and emenities within the Almond Valley Site including but not limited to:
◦ Mowing, strimming and maintenance of grassed spaces
◦ Maintenance of trees, shrubs and green spaces
◦ Weed-killing (knapsack) in public spaces and pastures
◦ Other minor landscape tasks as required
• Assisting the Produce Grower with horticultural operations as and when needed; such as:
◦ Growing of fruit and vegetables
◦ The flower displays
◦ Both of which may be for the catering side of the business or resale within the onsite shop
• Planting and weeding of the various areas on site
• Litter removal when required
• Demonstrating self motivation, organising, planning and prioritising, along with good time management.
• Undertaking such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the site as required by the Facilities Manager

As a key support to the Senior Driver & Tidy Team Assistant , the Tidy Team Assistant ensures the cleanliness of the site to a consistently high standard which contributes to the overall visitor/site experience.

INFORMATION ABOUT TEAM

You will form part of the Visitor Operations Team, lead by the Operations Manager. The small dedicated tidy team team is made up of three team members, who work in shifts to ensure the cleanliness of the site, this team also operates the rides on site, however this specific role does not include the operating of the rides. This role also works closely with the Facilities Manager, who ensures the maintenance and landscaping of the site is completed.

SCOPE OF DUTIES

Customer Experience
• Meeting customers face to face and answering their questions
• Advising customer of routes around the site

Site Cleanliness
• To carry out appropriate cleaning of areas as directed by the Operations Manager and Senior Drive & Tidy Team Assistant, these include but not limited to:
◦ Daily litter picking
◦ Regular toilet checks and cleaning throughout the day-to-day
◦ Cleaning of play areas
◦ Deep cleaning Bones and Stones, the Bouncy Pillows, the Paraffin Works and the Adventure Zone on a regular basis
◦ To assist with the removal of rubbish from the site litter bins on a regular basis
• Report any issues that are found on-site to the Operations Manager or the Senior Driver & Tidy Team Assistant

Health and Safety
• To assist with the carrying out daily and weekly compliance checks on play equipment around the site.
• To ensure site meets with Health and Safety legislation in liaison with the Operations Manager.
• Work in a responsible and safe manner at all times adhering to Health & Safety, safe working practices and our policies and procedures.
• To comply with necessary Health and Safety guides and procedures
• Report all instances of damage and wear and tear issues promptly to the Operations Manager

Maintenance
• Provide support to the Maintenance Team with planned and unplanned issues that arise on site.
