This historic family home is open to the public and is still lived in by its original family, and this vacancy gives the post holder a fantastic opportunity to work within this beautiful Estate and manage the seasonal opening of the Castle and Gardens to visitors.
At Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens visitors can explore and enjoy almost 500 years of Highland history, acres of formal gardens, woodlands and riverside walks, the children’s Playground, Picnic Area, Tearoom and Gift Shop. The Estate is located amidst the beauty of Speyside in the North East of Scotland, situated just off the A95 one hour from Inverness, ninety minutes from Aberdeen and situated halfway between the villages of Grantown-on-Spey and Aberlour.
This vacancy of Head of Tourism and Marketing is a visible and senior management role where the post holder will be focussed on the overall management of the visitor experience and the smooth running of the public areas.
This permanent and full-time post will have a range of varied responsibilities as the Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens are open to visitors from Easter through to the end of September, five days per week (Sunday to Thursday). Based at the Castle this post reports directly into the owners and you will lead a team of visitor services and retail employees.
Full year marketing of the Estate – approve advertising for publications: agreeing rates, placing ads, composing adverts where required. Monitor and post on social media – FB, Twitter, Instagram – primarily for the Castle but also from time to time to assist on the rest of the channels. Responsible for the Estate websites and the revision thereof.
Manage day to day the opening of the Castle and Gardens and Gift Shop.
Supervise all seasonal staff.
Liaise with groups of visitors and coach parties.
Complete the weekly stats for Shop and admissions and the income ledger monthly
Oversee standards of customer service and the visitor experience.
Revise any documentation, agree amendments and order quantity confirmed with distributors.
Shop stock: annual stock take, identify requirements, order catalogues where necessary, place orders.
Check incoming stock, price, set out, back up stock to stockroom.
Consider tourism staffing requirement.
Oversee out of season coaches and group bookings.
Obtain prices for production of new leaflet/guidebook for next season.
Coordinate dates for regular group visits.
Key skills and experience required:
We are seeking candidates with previous experience of working in a customer focused and high footfall environment where they have led a team to deliver an excellent experience.
Excellent social media and marketing skills
As this post is based in a family home, we are looking for a reliable person who has an excellent eye for detail, an ability to write good English and who takes pride in their work. The ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanour and will be happy working both on their own and as part of a team. In addition, you will have a flexible and hands on approach to the changing working hours and busy seasonal working that is required.
Good competitive salary will be paid dependent on experience with company benefits. Accommodation is not included currently as part of the remuneration but practical support will be given to find local accommodation if required.
