Garden Apprentice (Various locations)
Organisation: The National Trust for Scotland
Location: Arduaine, Pitmedden, Falkland Palace, Brodie Castle, Crathes Castle, Geilston
The NTS Garden Apprentice role at Arduaine Garden provides training in a broad range of horticultural skills to someone with little or no horticultural experience. Our apprenticeship is a great opportunity for a young person to learn, train and experience real work in a professional gardening environment where we take a great pride in looking after Scotland’s heritage, providing beautiful places for people to visit and working to a high standard. The Garden Apprenticeship scheme is intended to help us manage our historic and important gardens, now and in the longer term.
The Garden Apprentice at Arduaine Garden will work as part of the professional team there helping to care for the garden so it can be enjoyed by our members and other visitors. The Garden Apprentice will also study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SVQ level 2 in Horticulture (SCQF Level 5) through a block release programme which will take place at SRUC Oatridge Campus, Broxburn. Success at this level would open up opportunities to apply for assistant gardener or seasonal gardener roles at our sites across Scotland, to apply for further training with our School of Heritage Gardening at Threave Garden, Dumfries and Galloway or to apply for jobs in the sector beyond the Trust.
Interested applicants should forward a completed Apprenticeship Application form to the People Services Department (Applications), The National Trust for Scotland, Hermiston Quay, 5 Cultins Road Edinburgh EH11 4DF, by mail or by email via email@example.com, to arrive by first post (i.e. 10.00am) on Friday 2nd July 2021. Interviews will be held at Arduaine Garden, likely to be on a date between 19th and 28th July 2021 so if you have not heard from us by the end of July 2021 you should assume that your application has been unsuccessful. If you have access needs to help you attend interview, we are happy to discuss these with you if you are invited to interview – so please do let us know then. Placements are likely to commence early September 2021.
