Museum Assistant

Organisation: OnFife

Salary: 9.90 - 10.48 per hour

Location: St Andrews

We are OnFife and as Fife’s largest cultural organisation we specialise in making jaws drop, hearts warm, eyes light up and imaginations run wild. We work with a huge range of partners, artists and creatives and our spaces are some of Fife’s favourite places. An ambitious leadership-oriented charity, we’re built on strong values, and those values make us who we are – Fearless, Inviting, Fair and Exciting.

As we are an accredited Living Wage employer paying the Scottish Local Government Living Wage, we guarantee that you will always earn more than the National Minimum Wage regardless of your role in the organisation.

We also offer a local government pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and flexible working opportunities. Along with this, you can also access discounted gym/swim memberships and other employee benefits.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Museum Assistants to join our team within our St Andrews Museum. We have a temporary maternity cover post and a permanent post. Your days and hours will flex to meet the needs of the business. This will include regular evening and weekend work across our venues throughout Fife.

You’ll ensure that every visitor to St Andrews Museum has a memorable visit. You will adapt to and acknowledge the diversity of our visitors and what they aim to get out of their visit to the venue.

For our temporary post, your working week will be 18 hours during our summer months (April – September) and you will work 12 hours during our winter months (October – March).

Our permanent post will work 22 hours in the summer months and 10 hours in the winter months. These posts will be annualised hours so your pay will remain the same across the full year.

You can view the full job description on our current vacancies page.

About You

You’ll ideally come from a service background, but it’ll be your enthusiasm for helping others and devotion to customer care that makes you really stand out. Naturally good with people, you’ll be able to put customers of all ages and backgrounds at ease, whilst helping to promote the venue, its activities and events. Your passion for history, culture and community engagement will be apparent. You will be organised, efficient and thrive on variety. It goes without saying you’ll need excellent numeracy, literacy and communication skills, but you’ll also need excellent administration skills, and the processes involved with ensuring the security and operation of the venue.
