Ranger (INNS) (Balmacara, Torridon, Kintail)

Salary: £22,572 pro rata

Location: Based at Balmacara (also covering Torridon and Kintail)

To undertake the control of invasive non-native (INNS) species on the Balmacara Estate, Torridon and Kintail and to record efficacy of previous control action.
Overall, this will be in pursuit of the following outcomes for and with the natural heritage cared for by National Trust for Scotland:

•Recording Previous Control: Undertake a survey of previous Rhododendron ponticum control carried out as part of Project Wipeout – Phase 1 and use this information with the Property Manager to inform management priorities moving forwards.
•Rhododendron ponticum control: Undertake prioritized control of Rhododendron ponticum on the Balmacara Estate in line with agreed priorities.
•Contractor Supervision: Supervise contractors that are engaged to undertake additional control at Balmacara, Torridon and Kintail as required.
•Plant Swap Scheme: Work with neighbouring private property owners to encourage control of external seed sources of Rhododendron ponticum to avoid further spread of seed on to the estate and provide vouchers for replacement planting by way of compensation.
•Other species control: Ongoing control of Japanese knotweed, Himalayan Balsam and American Skunk Cabbage on the Balmacara Estate.
•Communities: Work with communities living on or close to our land or with an interest in our land so that they collaborate with us to help achieve our Project Wipeout and INNS control outcomes, including the possibility of building a resource of local volunteers.
