Senior Human Resources (HR) Manager

Salary: £43,500 FTE

Hours: Full Time/Part Time 4 to 5 days per week
Duration: Permanent

We are looking for an exceptional Senior HR Manager to join our happy team. This position presents a rare opportunity to join the charity that manages The Royal Yacht Britannia, a leading five-star visitor attraction with an outstanding reputation for quality and customer experience, and the team behind our sister ship, Fingal, Scotland’s only luxury floating hotel (Edinburgh’s No.1 hotel on TripAdvisor).

Reporting to the Director of Human Resource Development you will be a key member of the small Human Resources team, developing and implementing successful human resource strategies for the 180 staff we employ. As well as deputising in the Director’s absence, you will also manage and support the HR and Learning & Development Manager.

Extensive experience in this field is required, and whilst experience in a high-quality, luxury tourism and hospitality, or hotel environment would be beneficial, it is not essential. However, a proven track record in HR management is essential, including developing policies and procedures to comply with statutory regulations, supporting and advising all other departments with recruitment, onboarding, people management, pay and benefits, learning and development.

Key strengths should include: a strategic and balanced HR mind, and strong communication skills, as well as positive and flexible approach when managing a busy and varied workload. It is also essential that you are passionate about delivering excellence through the development of our people, and have a very good sense of humour.

This is a role where you get to work collaboratively with all the line managers in the business. The Senior HR Manager will have a fundamental role to play in the integration, management and ongoing development of our new HR software, People HR. As the Senior HR Manager, you will have responsibility for providing core HR advice, be actively involved in people related projects, support change, encourage staff wellbeing initiatives and policies, undertake employee coaching and help shape our company culture.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

– Manage and provide advice on employee relations, including absence management, discipline, grievance, and end of employment.
– Apply HR and business knowledge evidenced appropriate decision-making skills.
– Keep up to date with current right to work legislation and Government employment initiatives (points based immigration and apprenticeship schemes etc), to maximise our recruitment opportunities.
– Continuously review and develop HR policies and procedures to drive performance, mitigate disputes and ensure legal compliance.
– Work with the Finance Manager to ensure accurate and timely data transfer for monthly payroll processing.
– Drive the development of HR strategy to align with business goals.
– Review and report on trends and metrics to help develop business solutions.
– Assist with talent management and succession planning.
– Participate in the implementation of specific projects, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the Company.
– Support change management processes.

Accountability
The HR Manager is accountable to the Director of Human Resource & Development.

Qualifications
– Minimum Bachelor degree required, HR Certification strongly preferred through CIPD.

Essential Experience
– Extensive experience of working at HR Manager level.
– Previous experience of an HR software system.
– Proven experience working with managers in a business partnering capacity.
– Effective and concise verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
– Strong problem-solving skills and ability to demonstrate sound professional judgement.
– Team player who works under their own initiative.
– Ability to use IT systems, including Microsoft Office efficiently and effectively.

Desirable Experience
– Experience and/or qualification in management coaching, learning and development.
– HR related project management experience.
– Relevant work experience in a similar organisation or background.
– Working knowledge of company payroll processes and procedures.
