We’re looking for a seasonal part time Catering Assistant with a genuine willingness to provide a world-class visitor experience to join our busy catering team. As part of this friendly team, you’ll be responsible for waiting on tables, barista duties, providing excellent customer service, operating the till, cash handling and some cleaning duties. This role will include working weekends. 

We’re looking for a warm and welcoming person to join our team at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery in the centre of Inverness. You’ll take responsibility for running our wee café (open Tuesdays to Saturdays throughout the year) supported by the wider High Life Highland Catering Team. The role

To coordinate the day-to-day catering operations to deliver first-class visitor experience and that your team and visitors enjoy a safe and happy environment; whilst generating income to exceed agreed targets in support of RZSS vision and mission.

Some of the things you’ll do:

Working with direction from the Catering Coordinators, provide day-to-day supervision of the Catering team.
Develop and maintain a supportive and dynamic first-class sales and service culture amongst the team -focusing on delivering high standards of service and food presentation in accordance with Cook safe regulations.

Ensure the Café areas are presented to the highest standards (displays, seating areas, signage), fully stocked and equipment is cleaned, maintained and serviced on a regular basis and report to the Coordinator any maintenance issues.

Support Visitor Experience Assistants with visitor complaints and act a route of escalation to deal with refunds in a professional manner and referring customer to your line manager if complaint cannot be resolved.

Working alongside the back of house team to ensure the smooth running of the cafe and outdoor catering areas as one united team.

What we’re looking for:

Starting pro-rated salary of £18,094 per annum (based on 30 hours per week)
Good achievement at Higher grade level (including English & Mathematics) or equivalent qualifications or experience.
Trained/certificate in Cooksafe and has ability/qualification to train others

SCOPE OF JOB

• Primarily based in Brodie Castle and Playful Garden but will involve working across all departments includes weekend and evening working and helping with events.
• Brodie Castle is set in a 75 acre “policies” estate of mature trees, avenues, and mixed woodlands with a man-made lake.
• The estate contains a significant designed landscape, commercial forestry, amenity woodland and formal gardens as well as agricultural land and a satellite site – Boath Doocot.
• There are two separate retail outlets within the site situated within the Castle and the Playful Garden.
• There are two separate catering outlets within the site within the Castle and Playful Garden, with 2 additional mobile catering outlets.
• Onsite there are 3 holiday cottages sleeping 2, 4 and 6 guests, and the Lairds Apartment luxury holiday let with 7 bedrooms accommodating 14 guests.
• The Estate is well known for large scale visitor events as well as weddings and wider hospitality and corporate functions.

People Management
• The post-holder is not a line manager but will assist in the supervisory and leadership role within the Food and Beverage team
• Will work closely with property colleagues and other specialist advisory colleagues

Finance Management
• Not a budget holder but will be expected to take responsibility for effective management of the Catering Operation at Brodie Castle
• Daily/Weekly cash reconciliation.

Job title: Food Manager

Reports to: Office Manager, with line management responsibility of the Food Team

Hours: Minimum 22 hours, but flexibility throughout operational hours is required, Monday to Sunday.

Seasonal/Permanent: This is a seasonal role with an anticipated end date of 24th December 2023.

Rate of pay: Salary is anticipated to be £22,880 pro-rata – this is open to discussion at interview.

Purpose of role:

This role contributes to the success of Grampian Transport Museum by exceeding visitor expectations in our food functions – Motorbites (our in-house tearoom), Cromptons (outdoor coffee van) and ad-hoc catering requests. This will include managing the end to end food business, ensuring the operation is profitable and sustainable, in line with Grampian Transport Museum’s objectives.

Key responsibilities:

– Supporting the end to end food business of the museum.

– Welcoming visitors in our food spaces, preparing and serving their orders and upselling appropriately.
