ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting for a Security Officer to work within the GSC team. You will be responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for all staff and visitors to the GSC site by monitoring our CCTV, intruder and car park security systems. You will respond to fire alarms in line with departmental process and ensure that all security procedures are carried out safely and in accordance with the shift checklist.

You will have previous experience of dealing with the public in a security position, and experience of health and safety procedures and alarm systems.You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work to a 4 day/night shift pattern and provide holiday cover (28 days holiday per annum).

‘Tackling TB: Dundee Scientist’s Fighting the Killer Cough’ Project Overview:
Dundee Heritage Trust (DHT) is collaborating with the University of Dundee to share the history of this renowned Victorian disease, and how scientists in Dundee are working to reduce its impact on the modern world.
As our family facilitator you will receive a fixed fee of £1,600 for this project (2 days planning at £200 per day, 4 days for workshops at £270 per day, and 1 day of admin/evaluation at £200), plus a budget of £800 for material costs, as well as access to DHT’s resources. Your fee could be used in whole, or in part to bring in external companies to deliver on one or more days.
The sessions will be held at Verdant Works Museum, during the school holidays in October 2023, December 2023 and February 2024.
Family Facilitator’s Responsibilities:
• To plan and deliver 4 workshops, over 4 days, aimed at a family audience within the museum.
• The facilitator will be responsible for set up and tidying away on the days they run events
• The facilitator will provide DHT with a report at the end of the project.
• The facilitator will be in regular contact with the Heritage and Exhibitions team for support and guidance where needed.
Family Facilitator’s Skills
• Confident and experienced at facilitating around science and history themes.
• Confident and experienced at interacting with a family audience.
• Able to pick up on complex topics and distil them into themes and ideas.
• Able to collect and provide useful evaluation of the project.

The Role
As a key member of our small and busy HR Team, you’ll be responsible for day-to-day operational HR activities, and will be a key point of contact for all people-related queries for our venues in West Fife and our Corporate team in Head Office.

This is an exciting generalist role, where you’ll provide coaching, advice, support and training to ensure that all HR policies and processes run smoothly as well as supporting the HR Team to deliver key departmental and organisational objectives. Thank you for your interest in the post of Grounds Maintenance Operator with Historic Environment Scotland based at Antonine Wall Depot. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment.

You will be responsible for the conservation and maintenance of the Antonine Wall and potentially other Historic Scotland monuments within the South Region with specific focus on carrying out grounds maintenance duties in the West Lothian region.

The normal weekly hours of work will vary according to the working season in the working year. The working year will cover the calendar year 1 April to 31 March.

Currently the working year is divided into 2 working seasons namely a longer working hours season (summer) and a shorter working hours season (winter). The length of each working season will be fixed by local management after discussion with the MCU and not later than 1 April of that working year.

The normal working week for the long season will cover a 5 day working week, Monday to Friday inclusive. The normal working week in the short season will also be agreed between MCU and local management and will normally include a 4 day week (within Monday to Thursday of that week).

About the role

We are looking for an experienced traffic / security professional to join our team working in an amazing location in the heart of Edinburgh amongst magnificent, listed buildings.

Working mainly on the Mound Precinct, you will be responsible for safely managing vehicle access and egress outdoors while providing security and helping visitors to the Galleries. The position can be physically demanding as you will be standing for most of your shift and a love of working outdoors is a must.

You will be an important point of contact for all visitors therefore excellent customer service and strong communication skills are required. The role also involves maintaining accurate records and interacting with contractors and tradespeople in accordance with daily schedules. Strong health and safety awareness is required.

The difference you’ll make

Reporting to the Gallery Supervisor your responsibilities will include:

Providing a high standard of security and visitor care, maintaining a professional manner and being the public face of the National Galleries of Scotland whilst welcoming and assisting visitors.

Exercising control over vehicles entering and leaving the Mound Precinct.

Supervising of contractors and trades people.

Staffing fixed duty or access points including searching incoming baggage or containers as necessary.

Maintaining accurate records.

Assisting the public in emergency situations and resolving customer concerns and complaints.

Supervision of members of the public to ensure the safety of the collections and regulation of those failing to comply with the Gallery’s conditions of entry.

Manual handling tasks as well as light cleaning and portering duties.

Adherence to Health and Safety guidelines.

Proactively keeping up to date with our exhibitions, events and displays and to engage with the public on these, whilst also remaining vigilant.

Who we are looking for

To succeed in this role, you’ll need the following range of knowledge, skills, and experience:

Proven experience in traffic control management is essential.

Previous experience of working within a Customer Services environment.

Security experience and knowledge of Health & Safety guidelines.

Strong communication skills and ability to relate to visitors in a friendly and professional manner.

Ability to use initiative, work independently and have the resilience to positively respond to challenges.

Enjoy working as part of a team and with the public.  

Flexible approach to the job and be able and willing to work weekends, evenings and any required overtime.

It would also be great if you have:

Knowledge and appreciation of art.

Knowledge of Gaelic and/or other languages is desirable but not essential.  

First Aid qualification or be willing to undertake training to obtain.

The role

To ensure safe electrical installations and undertake designated activities, related to your trade, for the maintenance and refurbishment of all buildings, facilities and infrastructure owned by the RZSS; to ensure that all areas of the site are safe and well presented for our visitors and in accordance with agreed service standards and in a cost-effective manner, in support of RZSS’ mission and vision.

Some of the things you’ll do:

Take the day to day lead to ensure all assigned repairs and projects are delivered effectively, safely, on time and to budget and recommend cost-effective opportunities to minimise the impact of its operations on the environment. Pro-actively inspect electrical installations and equipment to ensure standards are being maintained and is safe to use
To attend design team meetings with designers and other customers to give expert advise on infrastructure and facilities
To supervise sub-contractors of your own trade and ensure that they complete works to a suitable standard. Assist in arranging access for these sub-contractors and highlight any unsafe practices to senior management.
To be the responsible person for all electrical installations ensuring their day to day safety for staff and visitors.
Undertake all forms of Electrical works, e.g. new installations (heaters/hand dryer/large scale lighting) electrical fault finding and testing and partial re-wiring and be able to take the lead on an projects requiring electrical works including measuring up for materials and planning the works with minimal supervision.
Ensure all electrical plant, equipment, is inspected, maintained and documentation kept to meet relevant legislation and best practice standards at all times.

Relevant City and Guilds certification or S/NVQ Level 3
Trained and competent on 17th/18th Edition test and inspection.
PASMA scaffolding certificate

KEY PURPOSE
This role will provide support in the delivery of woodland management operations and access requirements across the National Trust for Scotland properties in North East Scotland. Working within the North East Ranger Service, this role will support delivery of woodland management, public engagement and education sessions, and estate maintenance.
The primary objective of this role is to contribute to the establishment of a small tree nursery at Drum Castle Garden & Estate, to produce the future cohort of local oak seedlings to support the regeneration and replanting of woodlands severely damaged by Storm Arwen. This operation will also augment natural recruitment of oak seedlings within the Old Wood of Drum Site of Special Scientific Interest, an ancient oak wood pasture. This woodland is highly valued for its cultural and historical significance, as well as its ecological features of veteran and ancient oak trees and the associated flora, fauna and ecological community it supports.
This role will also be part of delivery of engagement and education sessions as part of the North East Rangers engagement programme. There will be opportunity to support woodland monitoring, and the maintenance and repair of trails and countryside visitor structures across North East Trust properties as outlined by the North East Ranger Service maintenance programme. This could include working with, and, with training, leading community and volunteer work parties supporting woodland management and estate trails and structures maintenance.

The Ranger is required to support the property team in delivering improved ecological conditions across the properties of Kintail, West Affric and the Falls of Glomach, to ensure all habitats are in favourable condition. This role will actively participate in supporting the property team in the maintaining the infrastructure of the estate to the highest possibly standards. You will have previous knowledge and experience of general maintenance skills e.g. painting, carpentry, electric, plumbing, and will be able to work effectively as part of a team. You will be able to prioritise tasks, work to tight deadlines and use initiative to minimise waste in resources and processes.
